All I wanted was a couple of bags of pine bark. I had lots to do and not a lot of time to goof around. Still, it wouldn't hurt to check in the garden center and see if anything else had been marked down since I got the coneflowers last week.
Boy, am I glad I didn't pay $19.99 for those snowball bushes (viburnum opulus) last week. They're marked down to $3. I could use a couple of those. Better go get a cart.
What's this? Crimson Pygmy barberries marked down from $16.99 to $3. I can use those too. Okay, gotta go. Work to do.
Wait? Are these fothergilla, with nice red leaves? Carol was just writing about those, and I was thinking that they'd look good next to my deciduous azalea. I really only need one, but I hate to leave the other one all alone here. What if no one else buys it?
Here are those Sweet Autumn clematis. Blackswamp Girl warned me about them, but our former neighbor, Carolyn, had one and the scent was magical. What's this yellow sticker? Fifty cents? Are you kidding?
I need another cart.

david - i had the same problem today when i went to HD to pick up a leaf blower. the 75% off signs are just so big and obvious! my only saving grace is that I don't know jack about shrubs so it's the one thing I'll go home and research before buying. I saw a beautiful weigela wine and roses for 6 bucks. I was really drawn to the purple foliage but also a bit concerned that it is too late to plant stuff in my area. i'll be going back to pick that up tomorrow since i checked with carolyn gail who says i can and should plant this ASAP.
Good deals - reminds me of near death butterfly bushes marked down in August - $25 to $5. There were six. I bought only one. Four hours later, I went to the nursery to buy the other 5 to find out I was too late. I learned my lesson.
Oh David, I am so proud of you for not leaving that one bush there alone that was so thoughtful. One cna never go wrong with a $3 bush.
Gina, I howled with laughter at your post! You'll love the Wine & Roses.
Mary, I learned that lesson too. now I grab everything that looks good and sort it out when I get home.
That's just the kind of guy I am, Lisa!
Sounds like you got some good shrubs there, at bargain prices. You'll love that Fothergilla!

What bargains, David! I've steered clear of the garden centers so I won't be tempted by the great deals but I'm sure glad you found them. Also glad you didn't resist Sweet Autumn clematis!
