Teresa and I recently celebrated out 11th anniversary by going to the mountains for the weekend. The weather on the way up was perfect--by that, I mean that it rained the entire time. I had forgotten what sheets of rain looked like, forgotten about rivulets on the road. The whole trip we wondered, "How much rain are we getting in Greensboro?"
We stayed at my brother's mountain house, which overlooks the Tuckaseegee River. Through the open windows we could hear the river, running fast after the rain, and the moon shone down from above the hills.
We went into Bryson City to explore downtown...
...and we visited the town of Cherokee. We steered clear of the tacky tourist stuff and visited the Museum of the Cherokee, which I highly recommend. Below, two Cherokee ladies from the Oconaluftee Village demonstrate traditional weaving. When we returned to Greensboro, I found an inch of rain in my gauge.

Yes, we did get rain. Your weekend sounds very refreshing, David. Cool and damp is good right now. Happy Anniversary!
Hey, well Happy Anniversary! What a nice trip. I went through Bryson City on my honeymoon many many years ago in the month of October. I had never before seen such beautiful autumn colors. We stopped at a bridge across a river to take pictures by a gorgeous maple tree. We also bought apples.
Thanks for commenting on Selma, Ala. Daily Photo about the Pure Oil Stations. I looked it up and they sure look like Tudor cottages to me!
Thanks, Mary. Glad you got some rain.
Thanks, RR. That was my first trip to Bryson City. Hey, my Greensboro Daily Photo blog ("In Good Light" is up now. Thanks for the info on CDP!)
