Cabbage White Butterfly

I've always seen these butterflies around, but never took the time to consult a butterfly book until today. It's a Cabbage White, introduced from Europe to Canada in 1860. They have obviously thrived in North America. Interesting fact: The male has one spot on the upper wing, the female has two. (Impress your friends with this knowledge!)

The flower is a Salvia (May Night).

Thanks for the comment on my blog, and I see that you've added a link to May Dreams Gardens. I'll add a link on my blog back to yours.

I like Salvia and the butterfly picture took some patience to get, no doubt!
