The Color Purple

"I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it."

--Shug, in The Color Purple by Alice Walker

Not wishing to annoy God more than necessary, I made sure to notice all the purple in my garden...even the weeds.

I love purple flowers, but I'd rather look at photos of your weeds than look at my own.

You have purple aplenty. It is wonderful to see some blooms and buds.

Wow, so many blooms and and it is not even spring yet. Your photos are lovely.

Beautiful purples! as well as Yellows in your last post. Sounds like Spring is really happening in your neck of the woods. Our daffodils have buds, so it won't be long, and the wildflowers have returned to the mountains. :-)

Well, David, apparently it's lucky for me that purple is impossible to ignore! You have a fine selection.

Even the Henbit (growing in my parkway, annoying the neighborhood lawn-meisters) looks great in your close-up. The little blue-violet flower in your 5th? photo looks like one that Tabor posted and tentatively ID'd as Veronica chamaedrys or Germander Speedwell. Is this what you call it, too?

Thanks Nancy--Have to give my wife credit for those.

The weeds are pretty up close, Mr M's Daughter--but Teresa still made me cut them.

Thanks Lisa-I'm ready for some color in my garden.

Thanks Meg!

Are you as ready as I am, Connie?

Thanks Annie--that 5th flower is a Homestead Purple Verbena. One of my favorites.

Maybe the order looks different on my screen, David?
The verbena is number 3 for me. The probable veronica is number three and it's tagged IMGP2830.
Both are beautiful colors.

Sorry, Annie--I can't count (English major, you know...) That's a Georgia Blue Veronica.

Thanks, David - that gave me something else to look up! It was amusing to read that the 'Georgia' refers not to the US State but to the Eurasian Republic of Georgia.

I had no idea that's where the name came from, Annie...although it did seem that "Carolina Blue" would be more appropriate...GO TAR HEELS!
